Recently, I had the opportunity to do something that only months ago would have seemed like a dream. My producer in Los Angeles, David Franco, sent me a draft of the script for the first episode of my novel, Saving the Music, now planned to become a streaming series. Written by renowned Australian playwright and screenwriter Alana Valentine, the script breathes new life into my characters while honoring the heart of the story I first imagined. Her touch is unmistakable—every beat, every pause, every shadow of emotion sharpened and alive in ways I could never have written myself. Reading it, I felt pride, awe, and even fear, as if I were meeting my own characters again for the first time through her eyes.
I was blessed to offer some insights and tweaks, small contributions to how my story would translate to the screen. Still, as I closed the script, heart pounding, I knew this was only the beginning. Storytelling is alive—it grows, evolves, and finds new life in ways even the author can’t predict. I’m deeply grateful to David Franco, Alana Valentine, and all involved in helping bring Saving the Music from page to screen, and I look forward to sharing more updates—behind-the-scenes glimpses, script insights, and maybe even a few surprises along the way. Stay tuned!
